Overview
Shopify refund automation with Lumtry
Connect your Shopify store to Lumtry and every refund request is decided by one versioned policy. Lumtry reads the order, applies your rules, asks a person when the policy says so, and writes the refund, store credit or exchange back to Shopify with an append-only audit record of each step.
Overview
What it does
- Decides Shopify refund requests with your published policy instead of case by case judgment.
- Offers store credit or an exchange for another variant when your policy prefers them to a refund.
- Screens each case for return abuse signals and holds risky ones for a person.
Setup
Set it up
Create your workspace
Sign up and create a Lumtry workspace for the store. Nothing reaches Shopify until you connect the store and publish a policy.
Connect the store
Connect Shopify from the integrations settings in the dashboard. Lumtry verifies the signature of every Shopify webhook before it records anything.
Publish a refund policy
Write your refund rules in the policy editor, then publish them as the first policy version.
Watch before you act
Run cases in shadow mode first to see what the policy would decide, then switch it on when the outcomes match what you expect.
Data
What Lumtry reads
- Orders, line items and payment details for each refund request.
- Order signals your policy rules read when they evaluate a case.
- Inventory levels, so an exchange is only offered for a variant in stock.
- Other variants of the purchased product, for exchange offers.
What Lumtry writes
- Refunds against the original Shopify order.
- Store credit on the customer's account, when the policy chooses it.
- Exchanges to a replacement variant.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does Lumtry replace the Shopify refund screen?
No. Shopify stays your store and its admin keeps working. Lumtry decides refund requests under your policy and writes the outcome back to the order, so both views agree.
What happens if a Shopify webhook is forged?
It is rejected. Lumtry checks the signature on every Shopify webhook before it writes anything, and a request with an invalid signature gets no business processing.
Can a person approve Shopify refunds from Slack?
Yes. When the policy holds a case for review, an approver can answer in the dashboard or in Slack, and Lumtry re-checks the case before it acts on the answer.
Does Lumtry store card data from Shopify?
No. Lumtry never stores raw card data. It keeps processor references only, which keeps your PCI scope small.
