EasyPost return labels for refund cases

Connect your EasyPost account to Lumtry and a refund case that needs the item back gets a prepaid return label bought on your account. Lumtry follows the carrier tracking, releases the refund when the return is delivered or sends it to inspection, and denies the case if nothing arrives by your deadline.

Overview

What it does

  • Buys a prepaid return label on your EasyPost account when your policy requires the item back.
  • Releases the refund when the carrier shows the return delivered, or sends the case to inspection if your rule asks for one.
  • Closes the case as denied when no return arrives by your deadline, and alerts your team once on a tracking exception.

Setup

Set it up

  1. Open Return shipping settings

An Owner or Admin opens Settings, then Return shipping, and picks EasyPost.

  2. Paste your EasyPost API key

Lumtry checks the key with EasyPost before saving it. A rejected key saves nothing, and only its last four characters are ever shown.

  3. Set your return defaults

Choose the return address, default parcel, who pays for the label and the label format.

  4. Connect tracking updates

Copy the webhook address shown in settings into EasyPost, and paste EasyPost's webhook secret into Lumtry so every update can be checked.

Data

What Lumtry reads

  • Return shipping rates for your parcel. Lumtry picks the cheapest one.
  • Tracking status for each return label, from in transit to delivered or returned to sender.
  • Tracking notifications from EasyPost, used only as a prompt to re-read the tracker with your key. A scheduled check covers any it misses.

What Lumtry writes

  • Prepaid return labels bought on your EasyPost account, with a tracker for each one.
  • A label refund request when a refund is rolled back, and a best-effort one when the return window closes unused.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Whose EasyPost account pays for the labels?

Yours. Lumtry never falls back to a shared key. If you set the shopper to pay, the refund is reduced by the label cost.

Can shoppers use a QR code instead of printing?

For USPS labels, yes. Other carriers get a printable PDF. Label-free returns are not offered through EasyPost, so a label-free request falls back to a QR code, then a PDF.

What if the label purchase fails?

The case parks for a person and the refund does not run until someone resolves it.

How does Lumtry trust EasyPost tracking updates?

Each EasyPost notification is signed with your webhook secret and checked before it is used. Even then, Lumtry re-reads the tracker with your key before it changes a case.
