Overview
BigCommerce refund automation with Lumtry
Connect your BigCommerce store to Lumtry with a store-level API account or the app install. When a refund is created on an order, Lumtry opens a case, decides it under your versioned policy, routes exceptions to a person, and pays the refund through Stripe or PayPal, with every step on the audit record.
Overview
What it does
- Opens a refund case when a refund is created on a BigCommerce order, and decides it with your published policy.
- Looks up BigCommerce orders for the shopper portal, so customers can start a return themselves.
- Lets you publish a policy version that applies only to BigCommerce cases, next to your default policy.
Setup
Set it up
Create your workspace
Sign up and create a Lumtry workspace. Only an Owner or Admin can connect a store.
Choose how to connect
Create a store-level API account in BigCommerce and paste the store hash and access token, or install the Lumtry app from your control panel and use the one-time link to finish connecting.
Let Lumtry register its notification
Lumtry registers a refund notification on your store that carries a secret only Lumtry knows, and checks that secret on every delivery before recording anything.
Publish a policy and watch first
Publish your refund rules, then run cases in shadow mode until the decisions match what you expect.
Data
What Lumtry reads
- The refund created on the order, read back from BigCommerce for its amount and currency.
- Order status and the customer's order count, as signals your policy rules can read.
- Order products, addresses, variants and stock levels, for shopper portal lookups and return labels.
What Lumtry writes
- The refund notification Lumtry registers on your store when you connect, removed again when you disconnect.
- Nothing else. Lumtry does not change orders, stock or notes in BigCommerce; the refund itself runs through Stripe or PayPal.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is there a BigCommerce app, or do I paste keys?
Both paths exist. You can paste a store-level API account's store hash and token, or install the app and claim the store from your Lumtry workspace. The app path appears only where the app is enabled, and the Marketplace listing is still in review.
How does Lumtry verify BigCommerce notifications?
BigCommerce does not sign its notifications, so Lumtry sets a secret header when it registers one and compares that header on every delivery before it writes anything.
Can Lumtry offer store credit or an exchange on BigCommerce?
Not yet. Lumtry cannot write store credit or exchange orders to BigCommerce today, so a case that needs either waits for a person to resolve it.
What happens if I uninstall the app or disconnect?
The workspace is disconnected. New notifications no longer open cases, cases already in progress continue, and Lumtry tries to remove its notification from the store.
